Ulmart Lost its Position as Leader of the Online Retailer Market

The company Wildberries has become the leader among Russian retailers for online sales, pushing Ulmart out of this position, reported the newspaper Vedomosti, citing data from Data Insight and Ruwards for the year 2016.

Online sales for Wildberries in 2016 were valued at 45.6 billion rubles, whereas Ulmart earned 38.8 billion rubles from online sales. The technology store Citilink also entered Data Insight's top three ranking, followed by M.Video in the fourth place and Eldorado in the fifth.

According to Boris Ovchinnikov, a partner at Data Insight, Wildberries managed to consolidate leadership and grow faster than the market due to the brand's association with online shopping.
The company's turnover grew in 2016 thanks to an expansion in their products, overall growth in the market, and improved service.
