Russian eCommerce: Sadness and Hope
Alibaba’s Director of Government Relations in Russia recently compared Russian e-commerce with Chinese.
The comparison was not in our favor. In Russia, 60% of online purchases are made from mobile devices, in China: 80%. Online commerce has invaded 4% of traditional retail in Russia, while in China: 17%.
At the same time, AKIT is full of bright hope. The association believes that within this year the domestic e-commerce market may grow by 12% and reach 1.4 trillion rubles. Last year, e-commerce amounted to 1.25 trillion rubles, of which 62% was accounted for by domestic players.
Artem Sokolov, President of the Association of E-Commerce Companies: "The Russian e-commerce market is rapidly growing and developing. Over the past few years, growth rates have been 20-25%. This year, I think we will see a figure of about 1.4 trillion rubles."
