WILDBERRIES BEGINS SALES IN THE EUROPEAN UNION

Russia's largest online retailer, Wildberries, began selling in the European Union, RBC reports.

The first European market where the retailer began to operate was Poland. A separate marketplace website was established for this country. In addition, in the near future about 100 company-issued points for delivering orders in Poland will be developed.

“Opening sales in Poland was the next step in implementing our international strategy. The Russian producers we work with have gained access to a large new market through Wildberries,” commented Vyacheslav Ivashchenko, Wildberries Development Director.

Wildberries’ plans to enter the market in Poland first became known in March 2019. The company’s founder, Tatyana Bakalchuk, later confirmed the goal of beginning operations in Eastern Europe before the end of the year. In mid-December, Russia's trade representative in Poland, Vladimir Nefedov, noted that Wildberries was fully prepared to start work in the country.

A source also said that in the first quarter of 2020 Wildberries will launch sales in Slovakia. In September, it became known that Wildberries would open a logistics hub for €200 million in this country, and in October the retailer signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Slovak Financial Administration.
