X5 is on Top, while Metro is Losing Ground
Infoline Agency presented a rating of retail chains in Russia based on last year’s results.
The leader, as before, is X5 Retail Group, with a revenue of 1.53 trillion rubles (+ 18.3% increase). Magnit is in second place (1.23 trillion rubles, 8.2%), and Lenta is in third place (413.5 billion rubles, + 13.2%). M.Video-Eldorado rose from fifth to fourth place, overtaking Auchan. In sixth place is Red & White (eighth place last year), Dixie is in seventh place (fifth place last year), Leroy Merlin is in eighth place, and DNS is in ninth place.
Metro can drop out of the top ten largest retailers in terms of revenue in Russia. Over the course of the year, the company dropped from seventh to tenth place, showing a decrease in turnover of 8%. Experts say that Russian buyers have recently been switching from the hypermarket format to convenience stores in an effort to save money amid falling incomes.
