RAEC Presents Findings on RuNet Commerce

The e-commerce turnover in 2018 reached 1.95 trillion rubles, which is 13.4% more than a year earlier. In particular, retail grew by 14% to 1 trillion rubles.

At the same time, on the main platforms of the country’s joint consumption economy, transaction totals reached 511 billion rubles.

Market slowdowns: reduced purchasing power and current legal restrictions, in particular on the sale of medicine, alcoholic beverages, and jewelry.

The main driver: an increase in the number of orders.

Prognosis:  Experts believe that next year’s growth will be 18%.

The main portion of buyers and large retailers is concentrated in large cities, since the periphery lacks fulfillment area and delivery capacities. Nevertheless, according to NADT, the growth rates of cross-border and domestic trade have practically levelled out. However, in foreign online stores, Russians’ average check has decreased.
