Gleb Belavin Presented at an Investment Seminar in Tokyo

March 14, 2018: With support from the Japanese embassy, the Association of Industrial Parks (AIP) of Russia and ROTOBO, the Japan Association for Trade with Russia and NIS,organized a Business Mission for members of AIP in Japan.

The delegation consisted of representatives from federal and regional authorities, representatives from special economic zones, and top managers of major industrial storage facilities. The management company MLP was represented by the Deputy Director General of Tenant Relations, Gleb Belavin.

The Business Mission's main goal was to attract partners from representatives of the business community in Japan for implementing joint industrial projects in Russia. As part of the business visit, investment seminars were held in Kyoto and Tokyo, during which participants from the Russian delegation discussed the specifics of conducting industrial business in Russia with representatives of Japanese companies, as well as the possibilities for industry localization in Russia. In his opening address to seminar participants in Tokyo, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of  Russia to Japan Mikhail Galuzin discussed joint Russian and Japanese initiatives and the current state of bilateral economic relations. He also reported that Japan has one of the most promising economies in the world from the point of view of attracting direct industrial investments in Russia's economy. Currently, there are 69 industrial enterprises with whole or partial Japanese participation in Russia. Among these are 20 Japanese enterprises located in Russia's industrial parks or SEZ, including such companies as Yokohama, Komatsu, Hitachi, Bridgestone, and others.

In his presentation, Gleb Belavin discussed the successful experience between MLP and major Japanese companies: "At the current moment, our company has contractual arrangements with three major Japanese companies: Bridgestone, Yokohama, and KWE. The freight forwarding company Kintetsu World Express (KWE) rented 15,000 square meters in the Nikolskoe warehouse complex, and a major part of the rented space is being used for an anchor tenant – the Hitachi company. Since the end of 2016, the world leader in tire production, the Bridgestone Corporation, has occupied 65,000 sq m in the Severnoe Domodedovo warehouse complex. At the beginning of 2017, we signed a contract with the YOKOHAMA Company, which rented 10,000 sq m of the warehouse area. We are prepared to offer similar possibilities for cooperation to other Japanese companies, especially since we have this kind of opportunity."

Representatives from over 60 Japanese companies participated in the various Business Mission events; some representatives, in the course of the meetings, discussed their plans to situate industries in Russia in the upcoming few years. Thus, at present, AIP is working with the order of Japanese industrial corporation, which, at the first stage, involves forming a pool of component suppliers and then, in summer 2018, based on their geography, will proceed with site selection for plant locations.
